Sailing Tasmania
Nestled at the edge of the Southern Ocean, Tasmania is a sailor’s paradise, where rugged coastlines, secluded bays, and clear waters await exploration. From the sheltered waters of the Huon and D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the wild beauty of the south and southeast coast’s, each voyage reveals a new facet of the island’s beauty.
Wildlife encounters including dolphins, seals, and seabirds are common, often accompany the boat, whilst anchorages offer peaceful nights under star-filled skies. The island’s maritime heritage, combined with its rich Aboriginal and colonial history, adds cultural depth to every journey.
Sailing in Tasmania is a sensory immersion into one of Australia’s last great wilderness frontiers.
Whether you’re charting your own course or joining us for a personalised sailing lesson, the Tasmanian coast promises discovery, serenity, and a deep connection to nature.

Charting a New Course: Grief, Reflection, and the Call of the Sea
By Chrissie Materia
In 2024, my world shifted in ways I could never have anticipated. The sudden and unexpected death of my sister in the middle of the year left a silence that echoed through every part of my life. Just months later, as the year drew to a close, I said goodbye to my elderly father—a gentle, steady presence who had always been my anchor. The grief was deep, layered, and disorienting.
For years, I had worked in health—supporting others, holding space, and advocating for wellbeing. But in the quiet aftermath of loss, I found myself questioning everything. The work that once felt purposeful now felt distant. I was exhausted, not just physically, but spiritually. I needed space. I needed stillness. I needed the sea.
So I stepped away.
I took time off—not just from work, but from the expectations I had placed on myself. I returned to sailing, something that had always brought me peace and perspective. The d’Entrecasteaux Channel, south and south west coasts of Lutruwitta (Tasmania) became my sanctuary. On the water, I was reminded of life’s rhythms: the rise and fall of the swell, the unpredictability of the wind, the quiet beauty of sunrise and sunset.
There were moments of awe, and deep reflection. I cried. I laughed. I listened—to the sea, to the sky, and to the quiet voice within me that had been drowned out by years of busyness and responsibility.
It was out there, somewhere exploring the wild and rugged coast, that I made a decision: I would no longer separate my love for the ocean from my life’s work. I would no longer ignore the deep pull I felt toward nature, movement, and the healing power of wild places and the sea.
Today, I am charting a new course—one that blends my background in health with my passion for sailing and connection to the sea. I’m creating spaces for others to experience the same kind of healing and clarity that I found on the water. Whether through ocean-based retreats, nature-immersive programs, or simply sharing stories from the helm, my work now flows from a place of authenticity and deep purpose.
Grief changed me. But it also gave me the courage to live more fully, more honestly, and more in tune with the tides of my own heart.
